Night Lights - 03.06.2020
Our Night Lights session featured some good books that helped children identify lots of different things that light up in the night. We then had fun with glow in the dark whistles and balls and used glow in the dark paint to make some great artwork. And finally, we introduced another new item to the kids - our light table and magnetic light blocks. So much fun!

The Very Lonely Firefly
by Eric Carle When a very lonely firefly goes out into the night searching for other fireflies, it sees a lantern, a candle, and the eyes of a dog, cat, and owl all glowing in the darkness. It even sees a surprise celebration of light. But it is not until it discovers other fireflies that it finds exactly what it's looking for. |
Night Lights
by Susan Gal Susan Gal tells the story of a child’s evening routine through all the different kinds of lights that shine in the night. From the porch light by the front door, to the firelight (and firefly light!) of a backyard cookout, and the candles on a cake, everything seems to glow in this warm and cozy book. |
Pets - 02.28.2020
We started out this session with a visit from Miss Bobbi Jo and her two certified therapy dogs, Maggie and Jake. Together, everyone learned about service dogs, how to identify them, and how to properly and safely approach them. After that, everyone was able to sit with the dogs while listening to some great stories about all kinds of other possible pets.

Pirates! - 02.21.2020
Pirate head wraps put the kids in the mood for some fun on the high seas. After the stories were read, everyone got to make their own pirate parrot buddy then search for buried treasure in our new sensory table. A special thank you goes out to the Office of Commonwealth Libraries within the Pennsylvania Department of Education for providing the table as part of a special grant.

Love & Friendship - 02.14.2020
We kicked off the year with a celebration of Valentine's Day. Game activities included ones to introduce each child to the group by name, learning about colors using the flannel board, rhyming plus stop-and-go actions while stomping to a drumbeat, and a thumb puppet play of hide and seek. This week's craft was the creation of a love bug hat.
